The FBI raids Former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in possible connection to violations of the Presidential Records Act and mishandling classified documents.
Monday Evening the FBI conducted a search warrant at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion, as part of an investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents that may have been brought to Mar-a-Lago by the Former President. This has been the boldest action taken by the FBI and the Justice Department against the Former President. At the time of the raid Trump was at Trump Towers in New York. The White House and the President were unaware of the raid taking place until it was reported on the news according to a senior White House official told CNN. The FBI and Department of Justice are yet to comment on the search of the Former President’s home. This is a first in history that a former US presidents private home has ever been searched by law enforcement. The FBI did seize about a dozen boxes from the former President's home according to a Trump lawyer. According to NBC News a copy of the search Warrant was left at the Mar-a-Lago home that indicates the agents are investigating possible violations of the Presidential Records Act and the laws on handling classified government documents.
The Former President did immediately put out a lengthy statement voicing his outrage toward the FBI and the Justice Department.
